Psychotherapy
Sometimes life doles out difficulties that are more than we can handle alone in this fast-paced world. Let me help you work through these challenges. In our work together, you can expect personalized support through attention to the interconnected spheres of mind, body, spirit, and relationships. To address your unique needs, I tailor my work using research-supported treatments, including:
- Mindfulness-based therapy
- Interpersonal therapy
- Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT)
- Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)
- Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)
- Yoga-based interventions
- EMDR
I specialize in individual psychotherapy for adults. Psychotherapy is an opportunity to grow as a person and improve your life. It’s a chance to talk through problems, make changes, and get feedback in a safe, supportive environment. Research has demonstrated overwhelmingly that psychotherapy is effective!
My approach involves collaborating with you to help you achieve your goals. My work is based on the idea that we develop our identity as we experience life: the ups, the downs, and everything in between. Our relationships and circumstances are important in how we experience life. As we move through life’s transitions, we can sometimes feel unsure about how to handle new situations or resolve old problems. Intelligent people tend to default to trying to think their way through life’s problems. This approach can work well for certain kinds of problems but may keep us stuck on problems that trigger strong emotional reactions within us. Feeling stuck can lead to feelings of vulnerability, confusion, depression, anger, or fear. We may feel unable to bounce back from even small bumps in the road or manage all of our responsibilities. Emotional stress can take a toll on our self-esteem, relationships, physical health, and overall well-being. Internally, we may get lost in the unpleasant churn of thoughts running through our minds.
Increasing self-awareness, both in the mind and body, helps people learn how to make changes. When we get stuck in a problem, it can seem like our inner compass gets out of whack. A goal of therapy is to help people gain a deeper understanding of themselves and others, which can pave the way for more informed choices and a solid sense of direction. I will work with you to recognize your unique strengths as a way to renew trust in your own power to improve your life. I will also help you develop skills to live in the present moment, using mindfulness and other related techniques. These skills can help you move out of the unhelpful and unpleasant churn of thoughts about the past or future and into more freeing and empowering choices. As you develop and refine your life skills, you are likely to feel more stable, experience a deeper sense of meaning in life, enjoy more satisfying relationships, and truly appreciate yourself and others.
During the course of psychotherapy, I may recommend psychotherapeutic assessment techniques, including personality and diagnostic tests, to improve therapy results and aid in finding your niche in the world.
